INTRODUCTION TO PRE-HOSPITAL MEDICINE

Years:  MS 3 and 4

Level Description: THIS ELECTIVE IS AVAILABLE TO ISMMS, US MD AND DO STUDENTS — NOT AVAILABLE TO FOREIGN VISITING STUDENTS.

Number of Students: Min 1 – Max 5
Location: Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, and Mount Sinai West
Description: : Through this elective, medical students with a particular interest in emergency medical services, emergency management, or public health will gain a deeper understanding of prehospital medicine.

Objectives: Through this course, students will:

1. Be exposed to the various roles of prehospital healthcare providers.

2. Gain a deeper understanding of the EMS system.

3. Develop an understanding of online medical control and prehospital EMS protocols.

4. Be exposed to Quality Improvement efforts in EMS and participate in paramedic/EMT education.
